Man suffers serious injuries after Illinois pedestrian accident

Being a pedestrian when there are vehicles around can be a very dangerous situation. Even if the circumstances do not appear to point to any specific hazard, a pedestrian accident can happen quite suddenly. If the driver involved in the accident does not remain on the scene, the pedestrian could suffer extended time without receiving aid or necessary medical attention for serious injuries.

A man in Illinois is currently facing felony charges after striking a pedestrian with his vehicle and leaving the scene. The situation reportedly took place when the 34-year-old driver struck a 39-year-old pedestrian just after midnight. It was not reported whether the pedestrian was attempting to cross a street, walking or standing on the side of the roadway or in another position in relation to the street.

Authorities followed the vehicle that was involved after the driver did not remain on the scene, and the driver was apprehended. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was listed as being in stable condition. At this time, the driver of the vehicle has been charged with aggravated battery, fleeing the scene of an accident and other felony charges.

It is fortunate that the victim of the pedestrian accident did not suffer fatal injuries as a result. However, the serious injuries he did suffer will likely require a recovery period. He could potentially miss time from work, which could result in lost wages, and he will likely have medical bills to contend with. Therefore, he may wish to consider filing a personal injury claim against the driver deemed at fault. If the driver is found guilty of the charges leveled against him, there could be an increase in the chances of success for a personal injury case in Illinois.
