Driver charged in relation to fatal Illinois hit-and-run

On behalf of Jeffrey Frederick of Frederick & Hagle posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.

Accidents involving serious injury or death can be difficult for the victim and/or the victim’s family to contend with. The situation may result in financial burdens that are an added hardship during the already harrowing time. If the accident was a hit-and-run, the family of a deceased pedestrian victim may hope that authorities apprehend the driver as soon as possible.

A family in Illinois may be thankful that authorities were able to locate a driver reportedly involved in a fatal pedestrian accident. The accident apparently took place last year, and the man was recently taken into custody. Reports indicate that the man was driving his sister’s car when he struck a female pedestrian. He then got out of the vehicle, saw the woman and left the scene without reporting the event.

The woman suffered fatal injuries in the accident. At this time, the driver of the vehicle is being charged with leaving the scene of the accident and failure to report the accident. It is unclear at this time whether additional charges could potentially be deemed appropriate for the situation. He is currently being held in jail after being unable to meet his $75,000 bail.

Though the Illinois hit-and-run accident took place several months ago, the family is likely no less relieved that the suspected driver has been taken into custody. As his case moves forward, the family of the victim may wish to consider their civil case options, as well. They may want to assess the situation to determine whether a wrongful death claim could suit their circumstances and allow them to seek reparations.
