Pedestrian accidents: Illinois man suffers fatal injuries

On behalf of Jeffrey Frederick of Frederick & Hagle posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

For some parties, walking may be a necessary form of travel. There could be many extenuating circumstances for an individual to walk to his or her destinations, and while it may not be a negative form of travel, pedestrian accidents do take place. Individuals who are hit by passing vehicles are at considerable risk of being severely injured because they have little protection.

An individual in Illinois recently suffered fatal injuries after being hit by a vehicle. It was reported that the incident took place at around 7 p.m. It was noted that a part of the street where the accident took place is dark though there are street lights in the area. The victim was reported as being 53 years old. It was not mentioned where the man may have been walking to when he was hit.

The man was transported from the scene by emergency crews. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was declared dead after arriving at the emergency room of an area hospital. At this time, authorities are working to determine whether medication or alcohol may have played a role in the event. The age of the driver was not disclosed in the report.

Pedestrian accidents are situations in which serious injuries are not uncommon. Because this Illinois event led to a person’s death, the driver could potentially be charged and a wrongful death claim could possibly be filed by the victim’s family. Such a claim may allow the decedent’s loved ones to seek restitution for their loss, funeral expenses and other damages that may have resulted from the fatal accident.
