Wrong-way car accident proves fatal in Illinois

Accidents that are the result of a driver traveling in the wrong direction on the roadway can have devastating outcomes. Some parties may not understand how a driver could make the mistake of not going the correct way, but it is a situation that regrettably occurs fairly often. It was reported that an SUV traveling in the wrong direction collided with a passenger van and another SUV. The accident took place just after 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 290. The individual driving the wrong-way vehicle is thought to be 22 years old.
The accident led to a passenger in the van suffering fatal injuries. It was reported that the passenger had been transported from the scene, but he was later declared dead. Other individuals were also injured in the collision, but those parties are expected to survive. At this time, authorities do suspect that alcohol played a role in the accident.
Because the car accident resulted in a fatality as well as several injuries, the party considered responsible may face repercussions of a legal nature from the victim’s family as well as the injured individuals. Wrongful death and personal injury claims could be filed in efforts to potentially gain compensation for the damages resulting from the Illinois accident. If the wrong-way driver also faces criminal charges, the outcome of the trial for such charges could play a role in any civil claims.
