Illinois car accident leads to woman’s death, husband’s injuries

On behalf of of Frederick & Hagle posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.

A serious crash that recently took place in Illinois resulted in one person’s death and serious injuries to another. Apparently, a 33-year-old man driving a car failed to stop at a red light and crashed into another vehicle. That second vehicle then struck two additional cars. The driver was apparently the only occupant of the first car, and there were two individuals in the second vehicle involved in the car accident.

The driver of the first car reportedly attempted to leave the scene after the accident occurred. He got into a cab near the accident site, but three individuals who had been inside one of the other vehicles involved informed the cab driver what had happened. As a result, the cab driver refused to drive the man. However, it was also reported that the man then left the scene on foot. He was later taken into custody by police.
The two individuals in the second car were seriously injured. The passenger was reported as being a 57-year-old woman, and she was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. Her husband — who was driving the vehicle — had broken ribs, bruised lungs and a head contusion. The hit-and-run driver is currently facing charges relating to the fatal crash.
As the criminal case for the driver considered at fault moves forward, the surviving family of the deceased woman, including her husband, may wish to consider civil legal action. Filing wrongful death and personal injury claims against the man may allow them to seek compensation for damages resulting from the car accident. Information on taking such action in Illinois may help them determine how to proceed, should they wish to do so.
