Truck accident in Illinois proves fatal

Construction zones can often cause traffic to slow down or even come to a complete stop. These inconveniences are understandable as there are often many hazards in the roadways in these areas. However, if drivers are not paying attention, they could become involved in a serious car or truck accident due to failure to adjust for slowing traffic.
Such an accident recently took place in Illinois and resulted in the death of an individual. Reports stated that a 59-year-old man was driving a vehicle east on Interstate 70 when he decelerated and stopped his vehicle in a construction zone. However, a semi-truck traveling behind the man did not slow down, and as a result, the truck crashed into the rear of the other vehicle. The first vehicle then struck a pickup truck.
The driver of the first car suffered fatal injuries in the accident. He was declared dead on site. Two individuals in the pickup truck were also injured, and they were taken to an area hospital. The driver of the semi-truck did not suffer any injuries. He was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The death resulting from this truck accident will undoubtedly weigh heavily on the minds of the victim’s family. If they wish, they may file a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault as well as the company for which he works. This type of claim could allow them to work toward gaining compensation for their emotional and financial challenges as well as other damages permitted under Illinois law.
