Illinois motorcycle collision causes death, injuries

On behalf of of Frederick & Hagle posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

Motorcyclists are among the least protected travelers on roadways. As a result, if a motorcycle collision occurs, the odds are high that serious or fatal injuries may be an outcome for the individuals involved. Even the most cautious of motorcyclists may be unable to successfully navigate the roads if another driver makes a serious error.

A recent accident in Illinois involved a motorcycle and a car. Reports stated that an 87-year-old man was operating the car, and he was traveling east in the westbound lanes. The motorcycle — which was carrying a 49-year-old man and his 18-year-old daughter — was traveling west at the time. As a result, the two vehicle collided head on. Both individuals on the motorcycle were thrown.

The incident resulted in the 49-year-old man suffering fatal injuries, and he was declared deceased at the scene. His daughter was transported from the scene by helicopter, but details regarding her injuries were not given. The driver of the car involved was also injured, but his injuries were considered non-life-threatening. Authorities were still investigating the crash at the time of the report.

Because this motorcycle collision led to a death and serious injuries, there may be cause for civil claims to be filed. A wrongful death claim filed by the deceased victim’s family could allow them to seek compensation for funeral expenses and other damages permitted under Illinois law. Similarly, the injured woman may wish to look into filing a personal injury claim in order to pursue reparations of her own. Information on such claims could help them determine if they would like to follow such a route.
