Hit-and-run leads to fatal injuries in Illinois accident

On behalf of Jeffrey Frederick of Frederick & Hagle posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.

Because interstate traffic can be traveling quite quickly and heavily, it is a risky place for pedestrians. However, some individuals do walk along these roadways possibly to reach their destinations. Unfortunately, a pedestrian could potentially be hit by a passing vehicle and receive serious or fatal injuries. If the event is also a hit-and-run accident, the situation becomes even more difficult.

A similar accident recently occurred in Illinois when a 17-year-old boy was walking along a stretch of interstate. He was reportedly hit by a traveling vehicle, and that vehicle and driver did not remain at the scene of the accident. Authorities believe that the vehicle could have been a pickup or SUV.

The teenager unfortunately suffered fatal injuries as a result of the event. Authorities are looking for information from individuals who may have been in the area at the time of the accident, but at this time, no witnesses have made themselves known. Authorities believe that the driver’s side headlight of the vehicle could be damaged and the mirror on that side could possibly be missing.

The family of the young man is undoubtedly devastated by the hit-and-run. Such an event can lead to many questions and much grief that must be dealt with. Though the emotional struggle will likely be difficult, financial issues concerning funeral costs and other expenses may also arise and put further strain on the situation. As a result, the family of the victim may wish to look into Illinois laws concerning wrongful death claims to determine whether pursuing a course for compensation could be right for them when the driver involved is apprehended.
