Illinois motorcycle accident results in fatality

On behalf of of Frederick & Hagle posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.

As many Illinois drivers know, freeways are often congested with heavy traffic. When high traffic is combined with commuters in a hurry to get to and from work, an accident has a significant chance of occurring. When drivers become careless while changing lanes, they may miss seeing another car or motorcycle and cause a collision. When a motorcycle accident occurs on a crowded highway, traffic delays as well as injuries are very likely to result.

A motorcycle driver was critically injured in a collision with another vehicle in the early morning on July 8. The collision caused multiple lanes of the expressway to be closed for approximately two hours. Officials arrived on the scene, and the motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the accident. It was not reported whether the driver of the other vehicle was injured.

The specific details of the accident have not yet been reported. Authorities should continue to investigate the accident to determine who was at fault and whether there were contributing factors such as alcohol involved. If the driver of the other vehicle is found to be at fault for the accident due to negligence or other variables, he or she could be facing serious charges.

While the investigation should continue into the events of the motorcycle accident, the family of the motorcyclist assumedly faces a grieving period for the loss of their loved one. The task of making funeral arrangements for a loved one who has died unexpectedly can be a difficult task for many. While the family must come to terms with their loss, they could also face financial hardships due to the funeral costs and other expenses. Should the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident be deemed at fault, the family of the victim may wish to seek a wrongful death claim in order to gain compensation for the financial struggles and other damages permitted under Illinois law.
