Illinois truck accident claims life of teenager

On behalf of Jeffrey Frederick of Frederick & Hagle posted in Truck Accidents on Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Being involved in a crash with a semi truck is a terrifying experience to look back on if an individual is lucky enough to survive. Unfortunately, not all individuals who are involved in a truck accident live, and, as a result, the families of victims are often left to determine how to handle resulting hardships. One family in Illinois may be working to make such decisions after a recent incident.

Reports stated that an accident took place between a tractor-trailer and another car. The driver of the car was reported as being a 17-year-old boy who was a senior at a local high school. His vehicle was apparently hit by the semi truck. Details about the incident were few, but it was noted that the truck driver failed to obey a traffic signal.

The teenage driver was reported as having suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The driver of the truck was reported as being a 64-year-old man, and he was not injured in the incident. At the time of the report, authorities were continuing to investigate, and it was not mentioned whether any criminal charges would result.

The victim’s family is undoubtedly devastated by the outcome of this truck accident. Because many financial and emotional difficulties may arise for the family in the aftermath of the crash, they may have cause to file a legal claim against the truck driver. A wrongful death claim may allow them to pursue compensation for funeral costs, emotional challenges and other damages permissible under Illinois law.
